I chose to use Youtube from Mr.Wang's files specifically in communication tools Docx. Youtube is a tool I believe this generation is very familiar with because many of my kindergarten students use it every day. I think Youtube could be very beneficial in many classes from both instructional videos to creating group presentations.

Youtube is a tool that can be used to group or organize videos together, watch or follow or certain channel which allows for liking and commenting. This tool also allows for creations so a teacher could be capable of creating lessons and uploading them for students to see. I think because this tool is so common it allows for very easy interactions as well as connections between teachers and students.

Here is a like that shows how to use Youtube

Ease of Use

Youtube has a very efficient ease of use ranging from the simplicity of finding videos, sharing links, finding resourceful information. Along with that Youtube is very user-friendly because of its social features and being the top social network. As I briefly highlighted earlier Youtube is often used every day by students outside of class because of the wide range of videos it has. This makes it very convenient when having students navigate through to sift for certain information. A teacher would also be capable of having students connect directly to their channel so they could post informational videos or share links to class. When subscribed the alert will pop up like a text would to a smartphone, laptop, or computer so students would be able to access off of any device. In turn, this would allow for interactions by liking or commenting on the videos.

Versatility

I think Youtube is very versatile in terms of context because you can find videos for kindergartners on counting to a hundred, pre-algebra for 7th graders, history videos for high schoolers. The tool has information on basically any given topic as well as tutorial videos on how to solve problems. But I think it does lack in certain cases because videos may not always be up to one's standards and you may have to sift through lots of contexts to find one you like. Along with that it also is videos so on instructional one a teacher may have to do lots of starts and stops. Besides those couple of flaws, I think youtube has so many great resources that can help a teacher engage a class in very many topics. My mentor teacher starts every math lesson with a different Youtube video promoting numbers and movement.

Likelihood of using it

Youtube is a tool I will for sure use in any classroom I teach in the future. With its wide range of options, I will find ways to incorporate videos into many of my lessons. I think that students respond well to it because they see it as something they use at home for fun that promotes feelings of engagement. Also, I really enjoy the fact I can find insightful videos for any grade range so whether I'm in a kindergarten class or 8th grade I will be able to find something for my students. In addition to that in the case of a sub, I could find a video to demonstrate how to do certain lessons or post one of my own demonstrations.

Course Connections

I believe that Youtube connects very well to the 7 events of technology by relating directly to presenting the content, gaining attention, and stimulating or recalling information. Youtube does a very excellent job of presenting the content because that is one of its main functions by being video-based. All the content can be streamed or shared directly by copying the links. Youtube also is a very big attention gainer because of the fact it's a video service many students use I think it gains immediate excitement for any grade level. Plus, hearing a teacher constantly lecturing gets old for any age and Youtube provides an alternative to this. The final part is recalling information I have used youtube in my student teaching classroom to highlight what we went over days prior. One example is Youtubing addition problems then students get to interact with the videos and answer the questions aloud. Youtube also connects with TLC by connecting to both T1 and T3. Youtube is very instruction based showing a wide range of learning tools while also helping with planning out lessons and finding ways in which you can connect a lesson with a demonstrational video.

  1. Hi Beau!

I think that YouTube is a very useful tool to use in the classroom. I do think that you can find several educational videos to use in your lessons to help students stay engaged. You can find math videos, reading videos, writing videos and much more. There have been times where I have used YouTube while working to find movement videos for the kids in my group to get them up and moving to help release some of their energy. As you stated, I do think that YouTube does grab the attentions of students while also presenting information to the students. Great post!
