I chose Quizlet from Mr.Wang's files specifically in the more tools for teaching Docx under assessments. I really enjoy this tool because many teachers growing up would have me and my peers make lots of documents with it. I have found it to be a super easy yet effective tool for studying.
Quizlet offers many great amenities such as fill in the blank, flashcards, visual study, easy review, promote collaboration and teamwork, lastly, it is an alternative way for studying. Students can make their own Quizlets along with sharing with others or even have the option to find one that is already made about their subject topic.
Ease of Use
Quizlet is a very efficient tool when talking about ease of use, it simply gives you options of what you want to pick for each card. These examples are can be either flashcards or fill-in-the-blank in which you simply type out the question and answer. From there you can continue to make the whole quiz, test, or review no matter the number of questions. After that one can simply go back in review or practice studying the set of questions. It also has options to find plenty of other pre-made Quizlets which can save you the time from making your own. I really enjoy this option because many times for my classes like Spanish or chapters from the text for vocab I would be able to find one that had the exact information I needed.
Here is a great tutorial video

Versatility
I think that it is very fair to say Quizlet has some versatility but it does have a ton of options for the users. The tool is predominately used as a review for vocabulary, quizzes, and tests. Another key point is Quizlet is an app so you can access your files off of a wide range of devices. Quizlet is excellent in those areas but as for multi-use options, it is lacking. I think for students and teachers it is very efficient when you need to use it because of the fact it is simple and extremely helpful. But it is not a tool one would use every day in the classroom. I think for me depending on grade level it could be a once-a-week thing especially if I did do something like vocab quizzes I would save the terms for these and share with my students so they could have these alternative study options. I may even have them create their own so I know that they are actively studying. This could also help with collaboration and teamwork amongst peers to help create and work with this tool.
Likelihood of using it
As for me, I think this is something I would in fact use but it definitely depends on the grade level that I teach at. For kindergartners or first grade, I think this would be over their heads and ineffective for most. As for third through eighth-graders, this tool may become a weekly staple that I would want students to use as a focal point when studying. I think it is super easy and convenient to create and use. Plus students would be able to access the Quizlets of any device.
Connections to the course
Quizlet connects to the 7 events and technologies presenting the content, providing feedback, and prerequisite learning. I think Quizlet works very well alongside prerequisite learning since that is the main focus of the app which is to review key information. In addition to that Quizlet also presents the content in a very effective way. Students can match Quizlet questions to the exact ones they will see on tests or quizzes so they can more efficiently remember the context. As for providing feedback, this is automatic on Quizlet because once you answer the fill-in-the-blank or flip the flashcard the answers are on the other side. This helps the student to immediately recognize if they are getting the answers correct. As for Quizlet's connections to TLC, I think that T1 and T2 connect more directly with it. T1 for instance works with planning which a teacher or student could make and plan out the review they want to make. Also, for T2 assessing is what the student will be doing anytime they are actively engaged with Quizlet. Overall, Quizlet makes great connections to the main ideas of the course.
Hi Beau,
ReplyDeleteI agree that Quizlet is a great tool to use. I remember having quite a bit of my teachers have us use that as well. I think that Quizlet is a very easy tool to use too. It is very convenient when other Quizlets are already made because you do not have to spend the time creating them. I agree that Quizlet is not overly versatile. I think that Quizlet is pretty much just used for studying for quizzes or teachers could use it to assess students as well. I think that Quizlet connects to prerequisite learning as well. Great post!
Hi Beau,
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I have used Quizlet since I was in high school. Whether it was a set made by my teacher, or one that I found myself, it really helped me practice and review different concepts. I really like the option to quiz yourself. It helps you gain a deeper understanding other than just memorizing the different flashcards. I think students of all ages could benefit from this tool.
